The 11th Annual St. Louis Cigar Box Guitar Festival 2024
The 11th Annual "ST. LOUIS CIGAR BOX GUITAR FESTIVAL" at the HWY 61 ROADHOUSE! Like every year, I had a blast!
I had some problems with my camera/phone overheating in the St. Louis heat, but I think I was still able to get some good footage of a few musicians, and a bunch of he cool guitars out on display! If you haven't made it to one of these CBG festivals yet, then you really need to go!!!
Mixed throughout this video is some footage of Devin Williams, and Travis Bowlin playing live. Make sure you check it all out. Play attention to the unique guitars... if you see anything you like, drop me a message and I'll find out for you who had it for sale, and how to contact them!

It's well known how busy Beale Street can be on Friday and Saturday nights, and during a concert or festival. However, just how busy is Beale St. during a regular mid-week day after lunch? For folks who would like to visit, but don't want to be around the busy crowds...this video should give you an idea what a typical weekday is like while visiting the popular music destination. It's undoubtabl...

I did get some video of Jason Vivone and the Billy Bats band. Plus, Paula Crawford ...

Although their styles are very different, I love to listen to both Brian May and Stevie Ray Vaughan play guitar. I can spend hours getting lost in the sound both men make with a guitar in their hands. Stevie mostly played No.1, which was a...

Robert Lockwood Jr learned how to play the guitar from Robert Johnson. He always said the crossroads story was BS. As a matter of fact, I don't ever remember Lockwood saying that Johnson ever mentioned the whole crossroads story. It was just a song he wrote. Johnson was in love with Lockwood's mother and Lockwood was a young teen and they spent a lot of time together playing music. Lockwood said that Johnson was a loner. He didn't really like being around people which probably led to the mystery. Having said all that, he did say Robert Johnson was a very good guitar player for his time.

Oh yeah! I completely agree. Personally, I don't believe in the Crossroads story, or even what a lot of people are now saying about Ike Zimmerman. For different reasons, folks just try to fill in the blanks of Johnson's history. with anything but facts... And sadly, the facts are probably already lost to time.

@@StillLivinTheBlues I agree with you. That's why I think that Lockwood is our best source of information. And truth be told, if you listen to Robert Lockwood Jr's music, I think he did Johnson style better than Johnson.

@@user-zm6yh3ux7l Whew, man. There are so many places to check out... The Delta Blues museum there is an absolute must see. It's there in Clarksdale, and is by Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero blues club. (Another stop) Stovall farm is close by, and that's where Muddy's cabin once resided. I liked seeing that. The cabin now resides in the Delta Blues Museum. Can you download apps? The Mississippi Blues Trial Mobile app is pretty cool...and it shows you a whole lot of different places to see in MS, TN, and even West Arkansas. You can pick and choose what you would like to see, and help you get there, etc... It's worth checking out. Robert's grave is further south in the state. I don't know if you are heading that far south. Check out that app, and let me know what you think about it. Is there any other blues musicians you like? Or, is your trip mostly going to be centered on Robert?

I first heard of Robert Johnson back in the 70's when I was beginning my interest outside the Rock genre of the late 60's Brittish Blues Scene...Crossroads by Cream being the catalyst for me to find out how they may have come to their version of one of Johnsons famous songs, my interest in old Blues was well on it's way to creating an original track I ended up writing, performing and recording which escalated after having read numerous stories about how Robert was contacted and recorded in what appears to have been a rented single room in a hotel on one wonderful day. I took in all the neance from what I listened to of those early recordings and tryed to apply it to what my soul was telling me it needed to deliver. Blues are a persons reflection, as y'all know...I like so many others are suffered my share. Blues music, as you all are well aware too is not prized with the same interest as many other genres but all us Blues lovers hang together for a reason, we all suffer some form of the Blues enough to need to share it as well. You can find the track on ReverbNation, My entry is titled " Nothing But The Blues " I wrote it as a tribute to how Robert Johnson influence helped me to go back into a simpler time and come back out in the modern age, I even built and played a Cigar Box Guitar for this particular recording but the focus was capturing the old way and I hope it did just that.
